Because of its special importance to us, we will give detailed treatment to the part of the spectrum of electromagnetic radiation with wave lengths in or close to the visible region. The human eye is sensitive to wave lengths from about 400 nm to about 700 nm. We investigate the nature of the quantum fluctuations in a light field created by the superposition of coherent fields.
